eMPHasis on BLUE

June 4-6 and 11-13, 2010

Showtimes: Friday-Saturday @ 8 pm and Sunday @ 2 pm

Ticket information: Tickets on sale May 7

Bold and new ideas blend smoothly into dance as collaborating artists borrow from the essence of blue. Sky, azure, cobalt, cerulean, Kellyindigo…. Whatever the shade, this powerful and mysterious color continues to stir the soul. Seven Project: Motion choreographers will draw inspiration from anything and everything BLUE to produce eMPHasis on BLUE, a collaborative process that will culminate in a unique contemporary dance performance. As part of the process, each choreographer will be paired with an artist who will paint, mix, compose, build, film, sing, shape and craft their way to a work of art to be displayed during the performance. In addition, guest choreographer Kelly Ferris Lester, a professor at Southern Mississippi University, will set a work on Project: Motion dancers.

RiverDreams

RiverDreams is an inspiring dance performance based on the children's book Steamboat-the Story of Blanche Leathers by Judith RiverDreamsHeide Gilliland. The true tale of how Blanch perseveres in the late 1800's and achieves her outrageous dream of becoming a steamboat captain is imaginatively lifted from the page to the stage. Words and images burst to life through the narrator's words, the authentic steamboat music, the talented dancers and of course the magical language of dance! The performance is exciting and fun, and the story connects to curricular goals for children. A study guide is available for this performance. RiverDreams is perfect for elementary schools, churches, community centers and libraries.

Dates: Jan 2010 - May 2010

Time: School hours and Weekend

Cost: $550 first performance or $850 two performances (same location)
